Pre-Employment As a new hire, you are required to submit to a drug test. Employers may, but are not required to, conduct alcohol testing. Not every DOT agency requires a pre-employment alcohol test. Only after your employer receives a negative drug test result (and negative alcohol test result – if administered) may you begin performing safety-sensitive functions. This also applies if you are a current employee transferring from a non-safety-sensitive function into a safety-sensitive position (even if it is the same employer

The DOT pre-employment drug test is a 5 panel urine drug test which must be analyzed by a SAMHSA Certified Laboratory and verified by a Medical Review Officer. A DOT drug test screens for the following,

  2. Cocaine metabolites
  3. Phencyclidine
  4. Opioids** – codeine, heroin, morphine, oxycodone, oxymorphone, hydrocodone & hydromorphone
